"Marselia Star" Мальдивы

The atolls rise steeply from the bottom of Indian Ocean, forming huge rock walls covered by static forms of life; the thicket in the shallow water provides for shelter and food for the multitude of sea inhabitants. Because of the location and structure of the islands, the submarine submersion in the Maldives - at least the best diving - is always practiced directly near the wall, under the influence of sea currents. During the diving at the wall, it is best of all to submerge along its surface to the selected depth and then to start slow ascent. During the submersion at the wall with drift, all the participants keep together, thus covering much greater area than usual. Some walls have deep cavities at the depth of 15 m, forming small caves and hoods. These shelters abound in different kinds of rockfish, soft-labium fish and squirrelfish. Some perch prefer the protection of stem corals that start approximately at this depth. Turtles can be met everywhere in Maldive Islands, they may be observed often in this place of the wall free floating. The dolphins, regretfully, are seldom observed under water; for the most part they can be seen when following the boat stern in the waves in shoals or frisking in lagoons. To the depths over 30 m the rock surface is studded with large gorgonias and cup-shaped corals, the ledges are covered thickly with multicoloured hardening corals and weeds. One may see resting turtles at this depth at times; to the depth of 40 m you are sure to meet sharks. As a rule, the walls end at the depth 6-10 m and give way to gorgeous coral gardens. The whimsical interlacing of different kinds of corals creates something like a Japanese garden. The upper reefs surrounding each small island seem to extend for miles. Like all shallow-water reef systems, they yield to the influence of weather, but many reefs look intact.

    Дайвинг-сафари

Dive-safari is the best recreation for the people united by one common passion - love for sea and diving.

Dive-safari is an exotic trip with living on board a ship and scuba diving. "Safara" means journey in Arabic language. This word was passed from Arabic language to Swahili and got the meaning of hunters' outing or just hunting there. Further the word was adopted by the white colonists who started calling the exotic hunt in Africa this way. Gradually such hunt became accessible to the increasing number of people. And instead of killing wild animals their photographing became of foremost importance.

In our days the word "safari" refers to any exotic lengthy travel and unusual excursion. In tourism connected with diving this is often a synonym of "live aboard" - staying on board a boat - this way it is possible to leave the port for several days and visit relatively inaccessible places for diving.

The tiny Maldive Republic is divided into 19 atolls. This means in practice that the Maldives represent a set of small islands, each may be walked through within 10 – 15 minutes. The ground rises over the sea only by one and a half metres, the most of two and a half. 25 years ago the archipelago was a wild land with in fact no vegetation – only some sporadic brushes. Now the islands delight one with gorgeous gardens: bright fist-size flowers, branchy palms with rousettes hanging over them … But the main attraction is the other thing.

The principal splendour of the Maldives is the sea. The islands are located over the corals as their superstructure. If one dives in the water – as most people do (the Maldives are the world capital of diving) – he will see real coral gardens. By the way, it is prohibited by law to tear and break off corals – like reading the Bible (this is a Moslem country) and watching porno.

Over two hundred kinds of fish dwell under the water, not scared by tourists, not to mention versatile corals and other living creatures of the sea. The earlier unknown sea world makes a usual sailing a journey to the other planet. Therefore it is probably for this reason that many people, coming to the Maldives, choose fishing as their main pastime.
